MBABANE – Eswatini international and Botswana side Morupule Wanderers defensive midfielder Mxolisi Mkhonto’s career in Botswana hangs by a thread.
He missed their clash against Police XI recently. Due to limited game time, he often started from the bench. Mkhonto is part of Eswatini’s talent playing outside the country’s borders.
Others include ZESCO United full-back and Captain Lindo ‘Bhabhalazi’ Mkhonta (Zambia), Betway Premiership outfit Chippa United forward Justice ‘Figa’ Figuareido (South Africa), Botswana side Police XI defensive midfielder Banele ‘Stiga’ Ndzabandzaba and Uganda Police attacking midfielder Sizwe Gwebu, among others.
Kwakhe Thwala and Sambulo ‘Masoso’ Simelane, who were recently exported to Botswana, have joined this growing list.
Mkhonto joined the side in August last year on a one-year loan deal. However, allegations suggest he has been released.
This is as per Killer Pass official social media page Facebook. After completion of the opening round in this 16-team league, the outfit have amassed 21 points. They are perched in eighth place in the latest FNB Premiership standings.
Head of Marketing and Publicity Thabo Rapula affirmed their technical team felt Mkhonto should be released. “His employers are Jwaneng Galaxy and he was here on a loan basis.
“The relationship is not sour but after having less game time with our club, the technical team felt they should release him. They want to beef the squad ahead of the second round,” Rapula said.
Meanwhile, Jwaneng Galaxy Public Relations Officer (PRO) Tankiso Morake had not yet responded to a questionnaire at the time of compiling this report. However, he had initially referred questions to Morupule, saying Mkhonto was part of the side according to his knowledge.
