MBABANE – Eswatini’s creative community is ready to take the world by storm.

Earlier this year, the Eswatini Theatre Club posted a call on their socials for proposals to the creative community with a deadline of January 31, 2026. In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, the US Embassy in Eswatini, in partnership with the Eswatini Theatre Club, opened the call for proposals for the America 250 celebration, attracting many, with 81 registering.

This initiative sought to bridge the gap between American artistic excellence and Eswatini’s vibrant local talent, offering performing artists, event promoters and cultural managers the resources to bring their visions to life. America 250 commemorates the signing of the US Declaration of Independence. Far more than just a historical milestone, the celebration focuses on the themes of creativity, resilience and innovation. Through extending the invitation to Eswatini’s artists to participate, the US Embassy aimed to foster a cross-cultural dialogue that celebrates these shared values through the universal language of the arts.

What the partnership offers:

The partnership was offering a comprehensive support package designed to lower the barrier to entry for local producers. Selected applicants will receive:

Funding: US$400 in direct support funding.

Venue: free rehearsal and performance space at the iconic Eswatini Theatre Club.

Technical support: access to basic professional sound and lighting equipment.

In exchange, selected artists will be responsible for staging their main event at the Theatre Club and leading one engaging activity at an American Corner in Mbabane, Manzini or Nhlangano.

The organisers were looking for creative concepts that highlight American culture. Whether it is a deep dive into historical movements or a celebration of modern pop culture, the possibilities are vast:
