MBABANE – Siboniso Simelane was crowned the new Mbabane Club champion following a gruelling weekend of play.

The prestigious tournament sponsored by Swaziland Building Society (SBS) took place at the Mbabane Golf Club from Saturday to Sunday March, where a strong field of 64 golfers battled it out despite the challenging weather conditions and damp underfoot.

Simelane emerged as the standout performer on the greens, securing the title with an impressive two-day gross total of 154.

The championship saw several heavy hitters vying for the top spots in the handicap stakes, with Vusi Ngcamphalala leading the pack to claim the Overall Best Nett with a superb 141.

He was closely pursued by Dumisani Msibi, who secured the runner-up spot with a 144, while Sam Richards followed in third with a 145.

Rounding out the top five were Xolani Dlamini, who carded a 146 for fourth place and Lwazi Mchobokazi, who displayed great grit to finish in the fifth position.

In the novelties and skills department, the long-hitters and sharpshooters also had their moment in the sun. Kayla Zwane proved to be the queen of the tee box, sweeping the Ladies’ Longest Drive prizes on both Saturday and Sunday.

For the men, Thabiso Gama showed some serious pop to win Saturday’s Longest Drive, while Sifiso Mashwama took the honours on Sunday.

Precision was also on display at the par-threes, where Mongi Dlamini and Teboho Mohapeloa showcased their touch by winning the Nearest the Pin on the 2/11 over the two days.
