MBABANE – Hub giants Manzini Wanderers visit Tambankulu Celtics this afternoon in what promises to be a fiercely contested clash.

Initially scheduled for Matchweek 22, the encounter was postponed following bereavement within the ‘Bafana Bemkhuleko’ camp.

Today’s battle feels like a stress test for two sides still searching for their true identity this season.

Wanderers, currently languishing in 16th place, have flirted with improvement but failed to commit to it, oscillating between gallant draws and heavy defeats.

Celtics, perched in 11th, are hardly a model of stability themselves; their six-game winless run speaks volumes about their recent form.

For Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe’s Wanderers, the challenge is akin to scaling a steep mountain. They have recorded just a single victory in 23 games this season, a lone win against Ubombo Sugar on November 11.

Wanderers are now fighting against the clock to secure at least a spot in the play-offs.

First-choice goalkeeper Mario Jamine remains a doubt following an injury.

The 26-year-old missed the previous match, where town rivals Manzini Sea Birds narrowly edged out the Weslians 2-1.

Should Jamine remain sidelined, Fisokuhle Shongwe is available for selection. The squad also features veteran midfielder Wonder ‘Samba Jive’ Nhleko and his counterpart Lwazi ‘Shumi’ Mamba, while skipper Siphamandla Manana and Linda Msibi headline the defence. Defensive midfielder Mcondisi Ndzimandze is expected to anchor the middle of the park.

Despite a 0-2 loss to Royal Leopard, Batoze Bavume head into this fixture with confidence under South African tactician Humphrey Mlwane.

A strong spine powered by captain Sakhile Ndlela, Malangeni ‘Mashumi’ Dlamini, and Phiwokuhle ‘Skosh’ Shabangu provides balance and bite.

Notably, ‘Mashumi’ was a thorn in the side for Wanderers in the first round, netting a hat-trick in a 4-1 victory.
