MANZINI – Minister for Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima has urged Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chairman Polycarp Dlamini to revive their relationship with Eswatini Beverages to bring back the Castle Challenge Cup.
The minister made the remarks during the unveiling of Sibebe Premium Lager as the official beer sponsor of the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre on Thursday.
The landmark partnership was hailed as a major breakthrough for local industry, sport and the country’s international image.
Nzima stated that the return of the Castle Challenge Cup would help strengthen local football while creating stronger ties between corporate sponsors and the sporting sector. He commended Eswatini Beverages for securing a partnership linked to the global football spectacle, noting that it proved local products were capable of competing on an international stage.
Speaking during the launch, representatives from the beverage company said Sibebe Premium Lager was proud to be associated with the world’s biggest football tournament, adding that only products of global standard were aligned with such competitions.
PLE Chairman Polycarp Dlamini said the minister’s remarks arrived at the opportune moment, as the league and Eswatini Beverages are already engaged in negotiations aimed at reviving their partnership. Dlamini revealed that discussions between the two parties have been ongoing for more than a year as they seek to bring back Eswatini Beverages as sponsors of the Top 8 competition.
