MBABANE – Dream realised!

The Mankayane Town Board has begun the construction of a 30 000-seater stadium valued at E4 billion. The start of the project marks a major milestone for the developing town and is set to position Mankayane as one of the country’s emerging centres for sports development.

The dream of constructing the stadium was announced during the Mankayane Town Board Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Siyakhula Hall on December 6, 2025. It was revealed during the AGM that the stadium will be constructed in phases with the first phase already in progress.

The developing town’s Head of Communications, Thabiso Mamba, revealed that as announced in 2025, the multibillion infrastructure will be built in stages; the town board has made the first stride towards fulfilling the dream of owning a world-class stadium.

Mamba disclosed that about three weeks ago, the Minister for Housing and Urban Development Appolo Maphalala, Minister for Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima and their counterpart at the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development Thambo Gina arrived to bless the construction of the stadium.

“We have started phase one, which is the pegging and levelling of the surface; the plant is already on the ground doing the excavation of the platform,” Mamba said.

When quizzed on the timeframe of the construction period, Mamba highlighted that he is currently unsure of the duration as the project involves other stakeholders such as the three ministries.

“As you know that the project is estimated to cost E4 billion, we have also engaged the Eswatini Football Association to help us with other logistics such as the right grass to be planted,” he said.

He also stated that apart from the Eswatini Football Association (EFA), they have engaged the owners of the Mavuso Sports Centre to help them identify the right grass and soil as they will use natural grass for the field.
