Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has confirmed a series of important vehicle launches for the South African market in 2026, signalling one of the busiest rollout periods for the brand in recent years. The announcements were made at the company’s annual State of the Motoring Industry (SOMI) event and form part of Toyota’s multi-pathway strategy, which embraces conventional engines alongside new-energy technologies.

Toyota bZ4X: Toyota’s first electric vehicle for South Africa

The Toyota bZ4X will become Toyota’s first fully electric vehicle to be officially launched in South Africa. The electric SUV, which has been showcased locally for several years, is now confirmed for a 2026 market introduction. Its arrival marks Toyota’s entry into the battery-electric vehicle segment, as the brand responds to growing demand for zero-emission mobility.

Land Cruiser FJ: A new entry

Completing the confirmed lineup is the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, a retro-inspired off-road SUV positioned below the Land Cruiser Prado.  Built on a rugged ladder-frame platform, the Land Cruiser FJ is expected to launch in South Africa in the second quarter of 2026, appealing to buyers seeking classic styling with proven off-road capability. With the introduction of its first electric vehicles, an all-new RAV4 and a fresh addition to the Land Cruiser range, 2026 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for Toyota in the local market.

Lexus RZ: Luxury goes electric

Also confirmed for local launch is the Lexus RZ, the first fully electric model from Toyota’s luxury division. Built on the same dedicated electric platform as the bZ4X, the RZ is expected to arrive in South Africa in early 2026, offering premium buyers an electric alternative without compromising on comfort or performance.

 6TH generation Toyota RAV4

Toyota will also introduce the sixth-generation Toyota RAV4 to South Africa.  The new model will be available with multiple drivetrain options, including petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. This launch is aimed at strengthening Toyota’s presence in the highly competitive D-segment SUV market, where electrified options are increasingly in demand.
