It all started with a simple act of goodwill. From his home, Sizwe Matfonsi was just helping out his neighbours, fixing their broken appliances.

He didn’t know then that this small act would spark a journey that would see him establish a promising software start-up right here in Matsapha. As the founder of his aptly named enterprise, Matfonsi isn’t just a technician; he’s a living lesson in entrepreneurship: You do not need a grand plan, just the courage to start with what you have and trust your own skills.

His business is a lifeline for anyone whose electronic device has gone on the blink. From everyday household staples like kettles and stoves, to the tricky software glitches on a mobile phone, he handles it all. But what truly sets him apart from the rest is his focus on convenience and on-site service. “Clients can simply call and I come to their place,” Matfonsi explains. This simple, mobile model has become the cornerstone of his business, building a foundation of trust and reliability with his growing clientele.

Matfonsi’s vision for the future is ambitious: H e wants to be the leading provider of electrical repair services in Eswatini, with his sights set on expanding into the intricate world of industrial machinery. Despite this big dream, his mission remains firmly rooted in the present: “To deliver high-quality and timely repair services, ensuring customer satisfaction through professionalism, reliability and convenience.”

The journey from a home-based hobbyist to a formal business owner was propelled by a community that believed in him. “I started small, repairing appliances at home. Their trust encouraged me to turn it into a business,” he says. That initial push from his neighbours was all he needed. Today, he is reinvested in his business, acquiring better tools and continuously upskilling to expand his reach.

Working solo, Matfonsi maintains a vibrant, positive energy by focusing on his own motivation and an unshakeable commitment to excellence. He sees himself not just as a technician, but as a problem solver, tackling every issue with a solution-oriented mindset. Keeping clients happy, he says, comes down to a few key things: Good communication, quality work and always listening to customer feedback.

HIDDEN

For anyone dreaming of their own venture, Matfonsi’s advice is as profound as it is simple: “Start with what you have; don’t wait for perfect conditions.” He openly shares that his biggest hurdle was his own self-doubt, which for a long time kept his abilities hidden. It was only when he finally decided to trust his skills and use the resources available to him that his business truly began to flourish.

While he never imagined he would be where he is today, Matfonsi attributes his success to the relentless support of his family and friends. This genuine love for his work, combined with their belief in him, is the engine that keeps him going, especially when he faces challenges.

He is currently reading a book called ‘Who Are You Who Is Dragging Me,’ by Ock Soo Park, which he says offers deep insights into personal growth and the workings of the mind.

It is a clear sign that his commitment to learning and development goes far beyond just fixing broken things; it’s about building a better, more capable version of himself.
