A Mercedes-Benz truck based at Nsoko has made history, becoming the first in Eswatini to clock an astonishing 1.5 million kilometres.
Purchased from Stucky Motors, one of the country’s most reputable dealers, this truck has become a true workhorse, powering operations across Nisela Farms and Matata for more than a decade.
Behind this remarkable milestone is a dedicated team: Service Manager Shaun Willmott, Finance Manager Devin Fannin and most importantly, the man behind the wheel, driver Sibusiso Fakudze, whose care and professionalism have ensured the truck’s longevity.
Together, they have proven that with discipline, teamwork and quality engineering, even the longest roads can be conquered.
What has kept the truck going?

The truck has weathered countless challenges, but one incident stands out. During the unrest in South Africa, rioters threatened to torch the truck. With quick thinking and diplomacy, the team convinced them to accept bananas instead. “That day was a reminder of the unpredictability of the road and the resilience required to overcome it,” recalls Fakudze.
At the heart of the business
Far from just being a machine, this Mercedes-Benz has been integral to livelihoods across the Lowveld.
Over the years, it has:
- Transported beef carcasses from Nisela’s feedlot and abattoir.
- Collected customers from rural areas to shop at Matata during pay weekends.
- Hauled live cattle, staff and supplies across farms.
- For the past five years, served as the backbone of Eswatini’s banana exports and local deliveries.
The secret to longevity
The truck’s durability lies in strict maintenance and accountability. The workshop team works closely with Fakudze, who treats the vehicle as his own.
