This week’s My Car & I takes us to Motshane, where we meet the ever-enthusiastic Linda SP, proud owner of a 1996 VW Polo Playa that he affectionately calls the Loud Screamer and once you hear why, the name makes perfect sense.

Linda bought his beloved ride in early January this year and since then the bond between man and machine has grown stronger with every trip. For him, this Polo Playa isn’t just a car, it’s a personality on wheels.

“I call it the Loud Screamer because of its loud cut-out on the engine and the exhaust pipe which breathes fire,” he said. The sound alone turns heads and the fiery back-end finish seals its identity as one unforgettable ride.

Locally, some people teasingly refer to it as Ingulube, ‘the pig’ but Linda embraces it with pride. “It’s a beautiful pig,” he said. What truly captures his heart is the car’s glowing maroon colour, a striking shade that pops in the sunlight, along with its unmistakable roar.

Under the hood, the Loud Screamer houses a 2.0L ADY engine, a powerhouse Linda describes as ‘the king’. Known for its performance and speed, this engine is part of what makes his Polo Playa one of a kind. Whether cruising through Motshane or hitting the open road, the Loud Screamer lives up to its name with every rev.

To Linda, this car is more than transport, it’s identity, expression and pure joy wrapped in maroon metal and in the world of motoring passion, that’s exactly what My Car & I is all about.
