Among the speakers was Dermatologist Dr Mabundza, who presented on Secondary Syphilis, raising awareness among healthcare professionals and the Ministry of Health about the increasing prevalence of the condition.
She highlighted that while much focus has been placed on antiretroviral therapy (ART), HIV management and pregnancy-related healthcare, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as syphilis are often being neglected, resulting in a concerning rise in cases. She emphasised the urgent need for stronger STI screening, diagnosis, and treatment within the healthcare system.
Dr Chetty-B also delivered a presentation on Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, providing an overview of a highly specialised service that is currently limited in Eswatini. She highlighted that many patients requiring such procedures are often referred to South Africa for treatment, creating both financial and logistical burdens for patients and the healthcare system.
Orthopaedic specialists also contributed significantly with a presentation on UBE Decompression of the Spine, showcasing advancements in minimally invasive spinal procedures and improved patient recovery outcomes.
Additional specialist presentations were delivered by experts in vascular surgery, bariatric surgery and nephrology, each sharing valuable knowledge and practical insights within their respective fields.
