Today marks a major shift for the city of Manzini as ongoing development projects under the Manzini Mall initiative begin transforming the face of the country’s commercial hub.
As part of preparations for a modern and improved transport system, the long-serving main bus rank officially ceases operations today, paving the way for the construction of a new and more developed bus facility.
The Municipal Council of Manzini confirmed Saturday June 27, 2026, as the official relocation date, announcing that public transport operations would move to designated temporary sites while development works continue.
The relocation forms part of broader city development initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and creating a more organised and commuter-friendly transport environment.
Under the new temporary arrangement, commuters will now access transport services from different locations according to their routes:
The Old Trade Fair Site will accommodate western routes including KaKhoza, Ngwane Park, Nhlangano, Mbabane, Mankayane, Zakhele, Fairview and surrounding areas.
The Satellite Bus Rank will serve eastern routes operating through the Manzini Traffic Interchange, including the Moneni route and beyond.
Riverstone Mall will become the temporary hub for cross-border transport services.
The council has urged motorists, transport operators and commuters to familiarise themselves with the designated entry and exit points and comply with traffic management measures introduced during the transition period.
Royal Eswatini Police Service traffic police together with the Public Transport Task Team will be deployed across the city to ensure traffic flow remains orderly and to assist the public during the adjustment period.
Authorities also stressed that passengers will only be allowed to board public transport at officially designated temporary bus rank sites, warning that no passenger pick-ups or boarding will be permitted along exit routes.
While the closure of the main bus rank signals the end of an era for many residents and commuters who have relied on the facility for years, it also represents the beginning of a new chapter for Manzini’s urban development ambitions.
As the city embraces change, many hope the transition will lead to a more efficient and convenient transport experience in the future.
