MBABANE – The waiting game is officially over for Eswatini’s continental hopefuls, Green Mamba and Nsingizini Hotspurs.
Today marks the highly-anticipated launch of the 2026 8Bet Trade Fair Cup at Sigwaca House in Mbabane, a pivotal moment that will force a resolution to the looming fixture crisis first reported by this publication on June 23.
With the media briefing scheduled for 08:30am in the capital, local football administrators must finally address the calendar overlap that threatens to compromise the preparations of the kingdom’s Confederatio of African Football (CAF) envoys.
The 58th Eswatini International Trade Fair (EITF) is locked in for August 28 to September 6, 2026, at the Mavuso Exhibition and Trade Centre. Under normal circumstances, the lucrative 8Bet Trade Fair Cup takes centre stage during this exact window.
However, CAF’s newly-released inter-club calendar has thrown a massive spanner in the works, scheduling the first preliminary round legs between September 4 and 6, with the return fixtures falling between September 11 and 13.
The overlap leaves Premier League of Eswatini PLE with little room to manoeuvre, especially if either club draws an away fixture for their opening continental leg, requiring early travel logistics.
When previously questioned about the impending clash, both camps chose to hold their cards close to their chests.
Yesterday, Nsingizini Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mnotfo Dlamini stated the club would wait for today’s launch before mapping a way forward, with the hope of a rescheduling of the season curtain-raiser.
Green Mamba spokesperson Ntuthuko Dlamini echoed these sentiments, noting that the squad had only just commenced pre-season training and internal discussions were yet to take place.
For defending champions Nsingizini, who face the daunting task of the CAF Champions League, managing this bottleneck is a familiar headache. Last season, the defending Trade Fair Cup champions had a mere fortnight to recover from the domestic tournament before bowing into continental action.
