Seychelles, Lesotho win 9 athletics medals in Eswatini National Games

LOBAMBA – Guest nations at the Eswatini National Youth Games are returning home with a combined nine medals out of the 41 that were on offer in athletics.

Eswatini’s four regions got a lion’s share, winning a sum of 32 medals, according to the provisional athletics medal table released after the inaugural Games.

The Games began on  Saturday, August 15, 2026 and concluded today, August 16, 2026.

Seychelles improved from their sixth-place ranking after day one, leapfrogging both Shiselweni Region and Lesotho on the final medal count. The island nation finished fourth overall after collecting four medals on the closing day to take their tally to six.

Their medallists are:

•             Odysius Melanie – Gold in the boys’ 100m final and gold in the boys’ 200m final

•             Aaliyah Nicette – Silver in the girls’ 100m final and silver in the girls’ 200m final

•             Khalil Payet – Gold in the boys’ high jump

•             Seychelles Relay Team – Bronze medal in the boys’ medley relay

Lesotho, meanwhile, dropped from yesterday’s fourth place to fifth on the final table. The athletes from the mountaneous kingdom added only one further medal on the closing day, finishing with three in total.

Their medallists are:

•             Matebatso Lelaka – Gold in the girls’ 1 500m final

•             Katiso Liau – Silver in the boys’ 1 500m final and bronze in the boys’ 800m final

A major share of the medals won at Somhlolo National Stadiums remained with the host nation. Manzini Region topped the table with 10 medals, including six golds and four silvers.

Lubombo collected eight medals, while Hhohho finished third with an 11-medal haul. Shiselweni ended at the bottom with six medals and were the only regional team without a gold medal.
