MBABANE – The dawn mist over Somhlolo National Stadium had barely settled when event organisers released the crucial update every runner had been waiting for.

Ahead of the eighth edition of the Imbube Marathon, which is organised by Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF) and  taking place on October 17, 2026, race officials issued a firm reminder to all participants: Earn your finish, or miss out on hardware.

For thousands preparing to conquer the challenging hills of Lobamba, the stakes have been made crystal clear. Under the banner ‘Push Your Limits’, organisers confirmed that medals are strictly guaranteed to those who cross the finish line within official time limits.

As a premier qualifying event for both the world-renowned Comrades Marathon and the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon, the Imbube Marathon maintains high competitive standards. Runners in the marquee 42km marathon must complete the course inside six hours to claim their prized silver-and-gold lion medal.

Established by the ENPF to promote health, wellness and community unity across the kingdom, the Imbube Marathon has rapidly grown into one of Eswatini’s most prestigious annual sporting fixtures since its inception. Rooted in the spirit of the nation, it has full support of His Majesty King Mswati II. The event draws elite long-distance runners and fitness enthusiasts from across Southern Africa and beyond. Beyond celebrating athletic endurance, the marathon serves as a vital platform for social responsibility, channelling its broad participation and corporate sponsorships into local community development initiatives and charitable causes throughout the country. Registration is still open at www.imbubemarathon.com.

IMBUBE MARATHON CUT-OFF TIMES:

42km Marathon: 6-hour limit

21km Half-Marathon: 3-hour limit

10km Race: 2-hour limit

3.3km Walk/Run (EmaSwati 60+ and Disability Community): 1-hour limit
