MBABANE – South Africa Men’s Netball Team Coach Shiko Mokaila has lauded Eswatini’s standout stars following their fierce battles at the Netball Africa Cup in Nairobi, Kenya.
Reflecting on their campaign after defeating Eswatini 49-45 in a thrilling final on Saturday, September 27, Mokaila admitted that facing the kingdom’s side provided his toughest test of the continental showpiece. Eswatini pushed the champions all the way, mirroring their closely-fought opening match of the tournament, which South Africa won 43-36.
Speaking exclusively to the Times of Eswatini Sports Desk, Mokaila highlighted the pressure of his debut tournament at the helm and credited his side’s third-quarter adjustments in the opener as the turning point for their overall success.
The Proteas mentor was particularly complimentary of Eswatini Mandisa Sihlongonyane, who plays in the centre pass, acknowledging his tactical sharp-mindedness and psychological influence on the side.
“Mandisa Sihlongonyane will always be a threat,” Mokaila stated. “He’s experienced; he understands the psychology of his team; and he knows exactly when to push them in critical moments.”
Mokaila was equally impressed by the opposition’s offensive quality, singling out their shooting combination for driving the team forward.
“I was also genuinely impressed by Eswatini’s shooting duo,” he added. “They carried that attacking line really well throughout, and it’s a sign of the depth Eswatini netball is building. Congratulations to Team Eswatini on their campaign; the rivalry keeps pushing both nations forward.”
Although Mokaila did not explicitly name the individual attackers, Eswatini’s front line was spearheaded by key players Brandon Dlamini, Sphiwo Dlamini and Ndukwe Masangane. Masangane capped off a sensational personal tournament by being crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Netball Africa Cup 2026.
