MBABANE- The stage is set for a monumental evening as celebrated South African theatre stalwart and television icon Bheki Mkhwane prepares to headline a major showcase at the October International Theatre Festival (OITF).
The special showcase is scheduled for 7PM tonight, September 30 at the Mbabane Theatre Club, marking a powerful highlight as regional and international creatives converge for the vibrant arts celebration.
Mkhwane stands as one of Southern Africa’s most revered multi-disciplinary arts practitioners, boasting a career spanning over three decades. Hailing from the KwaMashu township in KwaZulu-Natal, Mkhwane spent more than 30 years mastering the nuances of stage acting, physical theatre, mime and playwriting long before making his landmark television debut.
He earned widespread household fame across the region for his unforgettable portrayal of Samson Ndlovu in the hit Mzansi Magic drama series Isibaya, a role for which he was heavily pursued by producers. Over the years, his illustrious career has expanded to include acclaimed television and film credits such as eHostela, Ifalakhe and a stint on Uzalo. Renowned for his deep commitment to artistic discipline and authentic storytelling, Mkhwane continues to mentor the next generation of creatives across the continent.
Tonight’s high-profile showcase follows a dynamic festival launch that began with the Schools Festival currently ongoing at the Mbabane Theatre Club featuring over 20 schools that joined in with their teachers. This is only just a beginning of great showcases to come during the festival from tomorrow until October 3.
