Eswatini Musician, Msimisi keeps on climbing the ladder as his vocals are featured on the newly premiered Netflix movie, ‘Seriously Single too’.
Eswatini musician Msimisi continues to climb as his vocals are featured in the newly premiered Netflix film, ‘Seriously Single Too’.
In an interview with Msimisi, he said that he was approached by Netflix for vocals for a specific scene. “So the song is not really a song from my catalogue. So what they did was reach out to me and ask me to write music specifically for certain scenes. So what they’ll do is they’ll describe the scene to me and whatnot. And I just, I write the song for the scene. And oftentimes, I only get to see it when everyone else sees the finished product,” Msimisi explains.
He notes that the process offers a unique creative reward. “And it’s always fun just getting to watch what the visual representation of what I imagined was as I was writing the music. But it’s like, yeah, so it’s not an official song. I think we’ve worked with them a couple of times, but this is just, it’s only been once where they picked a song that exists,” he added.
For most projects, Msimisi explains that direct visuals remain under strict security. “All the other times, it’s just been me writing to a scene that they’ve described. Or sometimes I do get to see the scene. If I’m there working with them in studio in SA, they’ll play the scene for me and describe the background. But in most cases, because Netflix has policies on property privacy, so I don’t get to see the scenes they just described. So I just use my imagination,” he said.
Seriously Single Too premiered on Netflix last Friday, October 16, 2026. The sequel forms part of Netflix’s ongoing celebration of 10 Years of Storytelling in Africa, marking another chapter in the streamer’s investment in South African stories and filmmakers. The original Seriously Single premiered globally on Netflix on July 31, 2020.
