MBABANE – This Saturday’s blockbuster Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium carries an extra layer of global stardust. As per South African media reports, online gaming brand Betway has flown in French football icon and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as its official brand ambassador, setting the stage for an unforgettable spectacle.

For thousands of faithful followers across the border, the occasion offers a golden chance to witness football royalty up close. No less than 50 emaSwati regularly make the cross-country pilgrimage to South Africa to experience the unmatched passion of the Soweto giants, given the colossal following both Pirates and Chiefs command within Eswatini.

Beyond the fierce on-field rivalry, Henry will immerse himself in the matchday atmosphere and reward passionate supporters through Betway’s ‘S’bonise & Win’ campaign, presenting up to E30 000 in cash to fans showcasing the best team regalia.

Beyond the intense rivalry and the quest for crucial league points, this encounter carries immense psychological weight, as ‘Amakhosi’ look to break a winless run against their arch-rivals and the ‘Buccaneers’ aim to maintain their momentum in their bid to defend the title.  Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30pm.

Amid the excitement, stadium management and law enforcement have issued strict warnings that ticketless fans approaching FNB Stadium face immediate arrest. Nevertheless, for the dedicated contingent of emaSwati making the trip, rubbing shoulders with a global icon while soaking in Africa’s greatest club rivalry promises a historic weekend.
