MBABANE – Great opportunities are on the horizon for aspiring female footballers.
South African Betway Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs have opened their doors to local female players to try their luck with the Amakhosi Ladies team. This was revealed by Kaizer Chiefs Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) and former Manzini Wanderers defender Bheki Shongwe.
Shongwe was addressing top-performing players in the 2026 KFC Scara Thindwa Soccer Foundation during their visit to Amakhosi’s base at Naturena Village in Johannesburg on Friday last week. The three players, two boys and a girl were accompanied by their teachers, who were later joined by KFC Eswatini Chief Executive Officer Nigel England.
Shongwe revealed that they now have a Kaizer Chiefs Ladies team, which punched above their weight in their first season in the Hollywoodbets Super League after finishing third in the standings, behind champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and runners-up JVW FC.
“We are planning to invite young girls from Eswatini to train with the Kaizer Chiefs Ladies team, perhaps for a week, as we have top-class facilities here,” Shongwe said.
He disclosed that the club plans to construct a hostel to house the ladies’ team within the village, following an incident in which one of the players was attacked on her way to training.
It is worth noting that Kaizer Chiefs founder and Chairman Dr Kaizer ‘Chincha Guluva’ Motaung encouraged the youngsters to pursue their dreams with discipline and determination.
Meanwhile, KFC Scara Thindwa Soccer Foundation founder and legendary Kaizer Chiefs striker Absalom ‘Scara’ Thindwa, alongside the players, presented Motaung with a belated birthday cake as he celebrated his 82nd birthday on October 16, 2026.
The youngsters were given a tour of the village and on Saturday watched the Soweto derby at a packed FNB Stadium, where Orlando Pirates defeated Chiefs 2-1.
