EZULWINI – The Minister for Education and Training, Owen Nxumalo, has praised FNB for its sponsorship of the Eswatini Golf Challenge.
Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony at Ezulwini Golf and Country Club, the minister celebrated the success of the fourth edition of the three-day tournament, which saw Michael Hollick from South Africa clinch the title with a winning score of 16-under-par, taking home the E317 000 top prize.
Addressing a crowd of players, sponsors and spectators, Minister Nxumalo, who was representing his Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs counterpart Bongani Nzima, hailed the tournament’s role in elevating Eswatini’s sporting landscape.
“It is just over six weeks since we gathered here to launch this tournament,” he said.
“The preparations, suspense and excitement have defined this year’s edition, cementing the FNB Eswatini Challenge as one of our kingdom’s foremost sporting events.”
The minister congratulated Hollick on his victory, describing it as a testament to his dedication and talent. He urged the champion to soak in this moment and enjoy this incredible achievement, expressing hope that Hollick would return to defend his title in 2026. Nxumalo also extended congratulations to the top three local players.
Highlighting the tournament’s broader impact, Nxumalo lauded the partnerships between FNB Eswatini and local organisations, noting that they exemplified sustainable development through collaboration. The event’s economic benefits were also significant, boosting the tourism sector, particularly accommodation in Ezulwini. Local caddies and ground staff also gained valuable opportunities to earn income and hone their skills.
Nxumalo reserved special praise for FNB Eswatini, specifically for its E60 000 investment in practice opportunities for local professionals and an additional E60 000 in cash prizes for the top three emaSwati players.
FNB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Thokozani ‘TK’ Dlamini, on the other hand, hailed the fourth FNB Eswatini Golf Challenge as a success. He addressed attendees on Saturday, describing the event as a phenomenal week on the fairway.
