MAGUGA – Hhohho Regional Football Association has received a E75 000 sponsorship from KOBWA.

The Komati Basin Water Authority (KOBWA), a bilateral organisation established by Eswatini and South Africa to manage shared water resources, has pledged E75 000 to support the Hhohho Regional Football Association (HRFA).

KOBWA oversees the Maguga Dam in Eswatini outside Pigg’s Peak and the Driekoppies Dam in South Africa, ensuring sustainable water management, while fostering community development through initiatives like this sponsorship.

The announcement was made yesterday at KOBWA’s head offices at Maguga. Chief Executive Officer Trevor Shongwe outlined the sponsorship, allocating E25 000 for the Under-13 teams and E50 000 for senior teams within the Pigg’s Peak League.

This initiative forms part of KOBWA’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, which extends to communities in both Eswatini and South Africa, particularly those near the Driekoppies Dam.

The sponsorship will benefit youth from Ekuvinjelweni, Kwakheni, Nginamadvolo, Ndlembeni, Nsangwini and Pigg’s Peak, focusing on Under-13 and senior teams’ knockout tournaments in the Pigg’s Peak League.

“This support responds to a heartfelt request from the youth in communities surrounding our operations. They asked for KOBWA’s assistance in promoting sports to keep them engaged, healthy and away from socially-unacceptable activities,” Shongwe stated.

In collaboration with the local Member of Parliament (MP) Jabulani Mabuza and the HRFA, KOBWA will support a football tournament to benefit a wider area within Pigg’s Peak.

“This aligns with our goal to maximise impact and promote inclusive community development,” Shongwe added.

The sponsorship includes two sets of football kits as prizes for tournament winners, two sets of training bibs, referee kits, prize medals and a football.
