PIGG’S PEAK – The Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs is set to construct 59 high-standard sports grounds across the country by 2028.

This was announced by the Minister for Public Service, Mabulala Maseko, during a workshop for bucopho and tinkhundla on the country’s budget. The event was held yesterday at the Hhohho Regional Education Office Hall in Pigg’s Peak.

The new high-standard sports grounds would be built in each inkhundla. This plan comes on the heels of the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) announcing that it is in the process of building a technical centre at Mafutseni, to complete its project of having a technical centre in each region, following the successful completion of the Mkhuzweni Technical Centre. Also, during His Majesty King Mswati III’s tour of the Mkhuzweni Technical Centre, the association announced plans to build a 60 000-seater stadium before the country celebrates its 60/60.

Pigg’s Peak Indvuna Yenkhundla Mthobisi Vilakati said he did not know about the Ministry of Tinkhundla Administration and Development until he saw the work the minister was doing.

He mentioned that he recently visited India, a country well-known for cricket. He said in most parts of the country he was passing through, he would see a small stadium with a cricket ground, where even very young children were playing.

Vilakati suggested it would be possible for the different tinkhundla to also develop themselves through football, as it is a sport they love. “Let us have high-standard playgrounds in the different imiphakatsi. Maybe this could also help our Sihlangu to win,” he said.
