MBABANE – Nsingizini Hotspurs are understood to have earned over E200 000 from a landmark broadcast agreement with Azam TV for their CAF Champions League preliminary clash against Simba SC.
The agreement, which was finalised a week before the match, marked a landmark achievement for Eswatini football, given the extensive reach that Azam TV commands across East Africa and parts of Southern Africa.
The first-leg encounter, played at Somhlolo National Stadium this past Sunday, saw Nsingizini fall 3–0 to the Tanzanian giants, but the game became a proud moment for the club as it attracted continental viewership and exposure rarely seen in Eswatini football. It is understood that the broadcast deal was directly between Nsingizini Hotspurs and Azam TV, facilitated by the club’s representatives and Azam TV’s broadcasting executives.
Eswatini TV produced the live feed and aired the match locally, but did not pay for broadcast rights. It was reliably gathered that the local broadcaster used the feed to ensure domestic coverage.
Although the exact figures could not be confirmed, industry benchmarks suggest that CAF broadcast packages of this nature are typically valued between E172 000 and E467 000, depending on the competition stage and regional reach.
