MBABANE – Moneni Pirates Malawian tactician Meck Mwase has swiftly tendered his resignation, albeit with his employers accepting it.
He is set to be leaving with his Assistant Coach Charles Manda before the end of this week. This ultimately means there would be a new face at Pirates when they host Malanti Chiefs over the weekend. The Club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Brian Dlamini, confirmed the news in a press briefing yesterday.
Mwase is said to be returning home to focus on personal issues.
“It is of sadness that during this time of the league, where we had started to see some positive displays from our boys, we have to accept the resignation of our head coach due to family troubles,” Dlamini said.
Dlamini further revealed they would be making more announcements soon.
“We will be making more announcements as this took us by surprise. We are still going to sit down and discuss where to go from here with regard to the technical bench. We hope to announce a new coach maybe after 24 hours,” he added.
The now former head coach also confirmed his departure.
“I would like to thank the management and CEO for giving me the opportunity to lead this team. As said by the CEO, I have family issues and this is why I asked them to let me go home,” Mwase said. Assistant Coach Manda, who is also leaving the side also shared some farewell remarks.
“We still love Moneni and the team will forever be in our hearts. Wherever we will be. We will always be with you in our hearts. We wish you guys, especially the players a good football season ahead,” Manda said.
It is said Mwase had been offered a short-term contract with the side for evaluation purposes. Regardless of only issuing instructions, his charges have had a rough start to the season. After seven games, they sit in 11th place with a mere seven points. Their best result has been two victories and a draw. Sea Robbers have suffered four defeats with the latest being a narrow 1-0 defeat to Nsingizini Hotspurs on Saturday.
