MBABANE – Athletics Eswatini (AE) has formally appointed Victor ‘Mavikana’ Dlamini as its new Communications and Marketing Officer.
This marks a significant step in strengthening the federation’s visibility and stakeholder engagement as highlighted by the AE President Zakhele Dlamini. The appointment, was confirmed yesterday during a media briefing at Sigwaca House, where AE President Dlamini emphasised the importance of sharpening the organisation’s communications strategy as it enters a new strategic cycle.
President Dlamini said Mavikana’s appointment comes at a crucial time as AE positions itself for an expanded competition calendar and enhanced athlete development in 2026. He thanked all partners – including the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Eswatini Sport and Recreational Council (ESRC), local and international sports bodies, sponsors, clubs, coaches, volunteers and the media – for their continued collaboration, noting that this collective support has underpinned AE’s progress throughout 2025.
Mavikana expressed gratitude for the confidence shown in him. He urged the media and clubs to work closely with AE to ensure consistent messaging and stronger coordination.
He stressed the importance of unity within the athletics fraternity, applauding the improved attendance at national championships and calling for even greater participation in 2026. He further encouraged race organisers to approach AE directly, warning against ‘stokvel-style’ unsanctioned events and emphasising AE’s custodial responsibility over road-running competitions.
The briefing reviewed AE’s 2025 highlights, including the successful hosting of the National Track and Field Qualifiers, the introduction of cross-country under the Shukuma banner and the expansion of the Eswatini Kids’ Athletics Project for ages 7–14.
AE also supported teams in regional competitions such as the Region V Youth qualifiers and Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Relays, ensuring technical and logistical backing.
Looking ahead, AE will implement its 2026–2032 Strategic Plan, increase sanctioned races and tighten athlete licensing compliance, warning that unlicensed athletes or those without international clearances risk forfeiting prize money.
