MBABANE — The OGF Movement has closed registrations for its current call for actors and actresses effective yesterday before the deadline.

The decision comes after the organisation received a higher number of applications than anticipated. The registration period was originally scheduled to run for five days, opening on January 19 and slated to conclude on January 23.

However, the portal was deactivated early due to the scale of the response. According to the Founder of the movement, Tony Mabaso, they received 38 actor registrations in total.

The movement had specified a requirement for 12 interested candidates for this particular recruitment cycle who are between the ages of 14 and 35 years. However, the volume of entries reached a point that necessitated an early closure to manage the selection process within their intended parameters.

“We are shocked at the reception and how local talented individuals are ready and hungry to showcase their talents. It is a pity that we cannot take everyone, however for those who qualified, we are looking forward to a very productive journey with the actors and to produce many life-changing productions,” he said.

The orientation and rehearsals for the 12 candidates is on January 24 at 12:30pm at the Arts and Culture Headquarters in Manzini. The OGF Movement is a Christian Art Management Movement that aims to create a platform for poets, musicians, theatre and fashion.

This is not the first time a group decide to close registrations before the deadline of registrations. Early last year, the Eswatini Arts Summit announced that the call for auditions for the South African telenovela ‘Isitha, The Enemy’ has been closed earlier than anticipated due to an overwhelming response from aspiring actors. The auditions were initially planned for 200 aspiring actors, but 350 registrations were received, leading to early closure.
