For DJ Bloss, the decision to undergo kubutseka was rooted in a profound respect for Eswatini’s heritage and the ancestral wisdom passed down through the ages.

Far from being a mere ritual, kubutseka serves as a spiritual and social milestone where an individual acknowledges that life is guided by more than just the physical world. It is a unique moment of unity where men from all walks of life gather to share insights and honour the King.

Having grown up immersed in Swati culture, the artist has always maintained that traditional practices are essential for harmony between the individual, the family and the wider community. “As DJ Bloss, my decision to go and undergo kubutseka was deeply motivated by my respect for Swati culture, tradition and the wisdom that has been passed down through generations,” he explained.

He views the practice as a vital tool for restoring balance and fostering a sense of personal renewal. His primary motivation was a desire to uphold the values that have shaped the nation’s identity for centuries. The influence of family and community leaders played a pivotal role in his journey.

In the Eswatini society, elders are regarded as the custodians of knowledge and their counsel carries significant weight. DJ Bloss noted that following their recommended path is both a sign of respect and a necessary step in preserving the customs that define the nation. “Growing up within a Swati cultural environment, I have always understood that certain cultural practices play an important role in maintaining harmony between an individual, their family and their community,” he stated.

Kubutseka is one of those practices that helps restore balance and bring a sense of renewal. Ultimately, the encouragement from his elders reminded him that kubutseka transcends the individual. It is about ensuring the continuity of a rich cultural legacy.

By participating, DJ Bloss has reinforced his commitment to the traditions that anchor his community and provide a roadmap for future generations.
