As we celebrate Mother’s Day today, local songstress and artist Zamo has taken a moment to reflect on the joys and complexities of raising a family while maintaining a high-profile career. Known for her soulful melodies and captivating stage presence, the artist recently shared insights into her private life as a mother of three daughters. For Zamo, the role of a parent is her most significant production yet, requiring a delicate balance of unconditional love and constant guidance.

The Essence of Motherhood

For the local star, motherhood is defined by a commitment that transcends the mere act of raising children. She describes the experience as a blend of unconditional love and sacrifice, driven by an unwavering desire to see her children succeed regardless of their age. As a mother to three girls, she has come to understand that her role evolves as they grow.

“Being a mother is not only about raising children,” she says. “It is also about supporting, praying for and guiding them through every stage of life.” This spiritual and emotional foundation remains at the heart of her parenting style. Although two of her daughters currently reside outside her immediate vicinity, she maintains that the distance has not dampened the connection they share. Her daughters’ names are Gabriella who is 18 years of age, Noni who is 15 years and the youngest Naledi, who is two years.

Treasured Bonds and Modern Challenges

When asked what she values most, the artist points directly to the relationship she has cultivated with her daughters. She treasures the daily interactions, ranging from long phone calls and shared laughter to the moments when they seek her advice. Watching them transition into independent women while maintaining a close-knit family structure is a source of immense pride.

However, the journey is not without its hurdles. One of the most significant challenges she faces is the physical distance between her and two of her daughters. Missing the nuances of their everyday lives can be emotionally taxing. She admits that balancing the need to be a pillar of strength for her children while managing her own parental anxieties is a constant internal struggle.

Guidance for the Modern Mother

To manage a household of three and maintain these vital links, Zamo relies heavily on open communication. Technology serves as a bridge, allowing for frequent messages and calls that keep the family unit cohesive. Her approach is one of presence, even when she is not physically in the same room.

Her advice to fellow mothers in Eswatini is rooted in equality and active listening. She encourages parents to love their children without favouritism and to listen to their concerns without passing judgement.

“Children may grow up and move far away, but they still need their mother’s encouragement and presence,” she notes.

A Quiet Celebration

While many might expect a high-profile artist to spend the holiday at a glitzy event, Zamo prefers a more grounded approach. Her plans for Mother’s Day revolve around the simplicity of home. She intends to spend the day surrounded by family, noting that nothing surpasses the warmth of a hearty home-cooked meal prepared with love. For this local icon, the spotlight may be bright, but the glow of the family hearth remains her primary focus.
