MBABANE – Eswatini football witnessed a dramatic day yesterday as Premier League clubs Ubombo Sugar and Green Mamba simultaneously confirmed the departures of their head coaches.
The two clubs announced the exits of Milton Dlamini and Bongani Mhlongo through separate official statements, bringing an end to their respective tenures ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Inyok’eluhlazana confirmed the departure of two-time finalist Mhlongo following the expiry of his contract after a campaign in which he led the side to two domestic cup finals and a fourth-place finish in the MTN Premier League. They are actively in search of a coach with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) inter-club competitions extended licensing deadline looming. They will be representing the country in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederations Cup.
Among the requirements this coach should have is a CAF A Coaching Licence. Reports indicate that Rangers tactician Mthunzi Ginindza leads the race for this vacancy. Ginindza is alleged to be one of the few Eswatini CAF A Licence holders. Former Moneni Pirates gaffer Mathews ‘Chaka Chaka’ Mandlazi was also purportedly interviewed. Regardless, Green Mamba Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ntuthuko Dlamini maintains that no replacement has been found at the time of compiling this report.
The Matsapha-based club praised Mhlongo’s leadership, tactical approach and commitment, saying he had fostered professionalism, discipline and a positive culture within the squad.
“Coach Mhlongo demonstrated exceptional leadership, tactical acumen and an unwavering commitment to excellence,” part of the statement read.
Green Mamba wished the coach success in the next chapter of his career, describing him as a valued member of the club’s family.
