THE 2025 Swazi Rally promises more than just roaring motorcycles, live music and the camaraderie of bikers, it’s also revving up the excitement with breathtaking car spinning displays. This year, one of the country’s most celebrated spinners, Eddie Honwin, will be taking centre stage with his BMW 330 Stroker Motor, ready to deliver heart-pounding performances that fuse artistry with mechanical mastery. Known for his electrifying style and daring stunts, he shared with us a glimpse into what goes on behind the smoke-filled magic.
BUILDING THE ‘BEAST’
Before the first tyre screeches in the arena, a lot of work happens behind the scenes. Honwin explains that preparation is as much about precision, as it is about passion. “Firstly, the car needs to be serviced with all moving parts double-checked. We use Goldwagen Matsapha for all consumable parts like engine oil and body components. For engine builds, I get a helping hand f r o m E x h a u s t Centre in Manzini and Puko in Mbabane, but most of my critical perf o r m a n c e parts come from South Africa.” W h e n i t comes to the ideal spinning machine, Honwin’s loyalty is unshakable: “For me, nothing beats the legendary E30 box shape, also known as the ‘Gusheshe’. People are experimenting with all sorts of cars now, but the E30 is unmatched in my eyes.”
TRAINING FOR THE SPIN PAD
Spinning, Honwin says, is n0t just about raw skill; It’s about pushing boundaries and building an almost personal connection with your car. “You have to spend a lot of time behind the wheel. It is like a relationship; you learn every sound, every movement. You also need to expose yourself to different spinning circles and never be afraid to ask more experienced spinners for advice.”
THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE SMOKE
While to the crowd it may look like pure chaos, Honwin insists that precision is everything. “My spinning depends on having my suspension in perfect condition. Focus is at 100 per cent, because in the spin pad we’re running at hectic speeds. Brake-topower calculations must be spot on, you’re making split-second decisions that most people wouldn’t even notice.”
