Discipline that turns heads

At first glance, one would easily assume this is someone who has been on a disciplined health and fitness path for years, given the structure and intentionality reflected in their routine.

Yet, this is a journey that only began a few months ago, built on determination, self-belief and consistency rather than long experience.

For Sikhanyiso Simelane, the decision to take fitness seriously came about five months ago.

It was sparked by a simple but powerful realisation that a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle is not as complicated as it often appears.

“I think I just wanted to prove to myself that if others can do it, then I can too,” she reflects.

Her motivation is deeply personal and grounded in self-improvement. She explains that her goal goes beyond physical appearance.

“I want to be healthy, strong and confident in my body,” she says, adding that good health, in her view, is one of the best investments anyone can make.

Her fitness routine is mainly centred on strength training, with a particular focus on core and lower body strength.

Exercises such as daily two-minute plank holds and squats form part of her consistent routine. These, she notes, help build muscles that improve balance and coordination over time.

On the nutrition side, Simelane does not follow a strict diet plan. Instead, she prioritises balanced and mindful eating. Whole foods such as eggs, chicken and potatoes make up most of her meals, while processed foods are limited. She has also recently embraced meal prepping to stay consistent and avoid unnecessary junk food choices. “I believe in balance, so I still allow myself occasional treats in moderation,” she explains.

What stands out most in her journey is her mindset. “Consistency really is my biggest secret. I don’t rely solely on motivation because it changes,” she says. For her, the key is showing up daily and doing her best, regardless of how she feels.

To those looking to begin their own wellness journey, she shares simple but practical advice: Start small, stay focused on personal goals, avoid perfectionism and remain consistent. She also emphasises that healthy living is not a short-term challenge, but a lifestyle that requires patience and commitment.

What makes Simelane’s story even more striking is not just what she is doing but how early she is doing it. Still in her early twenties, she is already building habits that many struggle to maintain for years and she is only 23 years old.
