For years, Siphofaneni has steadily evolved, quietly but consistently expanding its footprint and establishing itself as one of Eswatini’s emerging centres of growth.

Despite not officially being recognised as a town, the area has experienced remarkable development, attracting investment and increasingly becoming a destination for both business and tourism.

The growth of Siphofaneni has been evident through the rise of establishments and attractions that continue to shape the area’s identity. Tourism and hospitality have also contributed significantly to this transformation, with facilities such as Vakasha Lodge adding to the area’s appeal and positioning Siphofaneni as more than just a stopover point.

Growth without town status

Yet, what makes the growth story of Siphofaneni unique is that all of this progress has happened without the area being formally recognised as a town.

Currently, Siphofaneni does not have a municipal council and falls under Madlenya Chiefdom, headed by Chief Mgwagwa Gamedze, following a ruling by the Ludzidzini Council led by Indvuna Themba Ginindza, which brought an end to a long-standing chieftaincy dispute between Madlenya and KaMkhweli royal kraals.

Recognising the area’s rapid development and growing importance, Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has called for the formalisation of Siphofaneni as a town, urging the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to explore the possibility. However, while discussions around formal recognition continue, development itself has not slowed down.

A plaza that changed the landscape

One of the most visible and significant additions to the area has been Siphofaneni Plaza, a development that has not only transformed the physical appearance of the area but has also brought essential services and shopping opportunities much closer to residents.

The arrival of the Plaza introduced an exciting mix of retail stores and financial institutions that have enhanced convenience for the local community.

Among the businesses operating at the Plaza are Shoprite, Ackermans, PEP and DUNNS, as well as banking institutions including Standard Bank, FNB and EswatiniBank.

Bringing services closer to the people

For residents, the development has meant more than just shopping opportunities. Services that once required travelling to distant towns are now more accessible. The Plaza also offers ample parking space and a strategically convenient location, making it easily accessible to customers and visitors alike.

More than a shopping centre

Beyond the services it provides, Siphofaneni Plaza has also delivered something equally important, a facelift for the area. The modern development has changed the landscape of Siphofaneni and created a more welcoming and visually appealing entrance into the area. Today, visitors arriving at Siphofaneni are greeted by the striking sight of the Plaza, a visible symbol of progress and development.

The Plaza forms part of MA Group under its Blue Zone Properties wing, which oversees its daily operations. For those interested in becoming part of the Siphofaneni Plaza family or making enquiries, Blue Zone Properties can be contacted at 7802 7054 or 7902 7054.
