PIGG’S PEAK – Pigg’s peak residents hosted their inaugural Pigg’s Peak Inter- Wards Culture Festival, where different age groups showed off their cultural talents.
The culture festival gathered not only residents, but was also honoured by a number of distinguished guests, including the Speaker of Parliament, the deputy Speaker, Hhohho Regional Women MP and Piggs Peak ward councillors.
Member of Parliament for Pigg’s Peak Constituency, Jabulani Mabuza, has urged the residents to embrace their cultural identity, emphasising the importance of knowing who they are and preserving their heritage.
Speaking during the inter-wards cultural competitions at Gobolondlo Hall, Mabuza commended ward leaders for creating an inclusive platform that allows everyone to showcase their cultural talents. He also acknowledged Pigg’s Peak Town Council and the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) for supporting the celebration of Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage.
“Such events help bring back our pride. Hosting this means that not only are we gathering for entertainment, but through the various renditions on the stage, we get to remember our roots.
Another factor is that this event brings together the entire Pigg’s Peak Constituency, leading to the broader economic factor. Such gatherings boost our local vendors as they will leave the hall with empty buckets and better pockets to sustain their families,” he said.
Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture CEO Stanley Dlamini recognised the work done by Pigg’s Peak Town Council in hosting the inter-wards cultural competition at Gobolondlo.
He encouraged other towns to adopt similar initiatives to preserve Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage, promote unity and provide a platform for local talent to shine. “Such success stories or events are a powerful reminder that collaboration can turn a vision into reality.
Culture contributes to people’s livelihood and to the wider economy. Many locals have built business, created employment and opportunities through culture.
Creatives gathered here today may have also started performing as a hobby, but have made this their career and earn a living through their craft,” he said.
Pigg’s Peak Town Council Mayor Sipho Shongwe declared the inter-wards cultural competition an annual event, marking a significant step towards celebrating and preserving Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage while promoting unity, talent and community participation.
