MATSAPHA – Moyeni SuperSport have etched their name in history as the first-ever champions of the MRFA Last Man Standing Knockout Tournament.

This inaugural one-day event, conceived by the Manzini Regional Football Association (MRFA), served as an official send-off for the four promoted teams to the regional Super League. The latter is the region’s top division and Eswatini football’s third-tier.

The tournament, held on Sunday at Mavuso Sports Centre, saw Fairview Chiefs, Ngodini, Kwaluseni Rebels and SuperSport battle for glory. SuperSport kicked off the day with a 2-1 victory over Rebels, setting the stage for an action-packed day. In a thrilling follow-up, Chiefs and Ngodini delivered a goal-fest, with eight goals scored in regulation time, seeing Chiefs advance with a 5-3 win.

However, Chiefs’ goal-scoring prowess seemingly peaked too early. In the final, a lapse in concentration saw SuperSport’s Mavela Simelane net an early goal.

Despite dominating the remainder of the match, Chiefs were unable to find an equaliser, succumbing to a 1-0 defeat.

Moyeni SuperSport Captain Mzwakhe Seyama, expressed immense pride in his team’s achievement, attributing their success to dedication and hard work.

He highlighted the team’s impressive journey, from dominating the Mafutseni Promotion League to securing a Manzini Super League spot and now clinching this title. Seyama affirmed their clear ambition: To conquer the Super League and progress to the MTN National First Division.

MRFA Chairman Vusie Hall congratulated the champions and extended gratitude to sponsors Ekhaya Insurance, Remini Sportswear and Mulasport Eswatini.

He noted that the tournament was a litmus test for its potential as an annual event.
