MBABANE – Local elite golfers have been handed the opportunity to sharpen their skills this weekend ahead of both the FNB Golf Challenge and the King’s Golf Cup.
This will be during a tournament dubbed, ‘One Golf Eswatini Championships’ to be hosted on Saturday and Sunday at the Ezulwini Golf Club. It is sponsored to the tune of E50 000.
Noteworthy is that this tournament is the brainchild of the King’s Golf Cup Organising Committee following His Majesty’s command on the development of golf in the country.
“The tournament, this weekend, is in line with the King’s command to us as a committee to develop golf in the country to produce another Nobuhle Dlamini or Joe Dlamini, who are legends in the sport locally,” said the tournament’s Organiser, Vusi Dlamini.
Adding, Dlamini said it was in this premise that the King’s Golf Cup then joined hands with the Eswatini Professional Golfers Association (EPGA) to develop the one aspect that is lacking in the country, which he said, was stronger competitions that have depth in talent and test of skill under pressure.
Dlamini said the objective of this weekend’s tournament is to bring together all the local elite golfers and professionals to compete against each other on pro-tees and a one-prize pot system.
“This is a custom-made initiative that speaks well to the kingdom and answers several golfing challenges the country had against local pro-ams and ESGU Opens.”
He pointed out that the purpose of the tournament is to provide elite golfers an opportunity to sharpen their competitive skills in readiness for the FNB Challenge scheduled for August 7-9 as well as the King’s Golf Cup in early September.
“The best golfers in the country will be savouring that their new golfing competitions ecosystem is at play. Good luck to all the participants,” Dlamini said.
The format of the tournament will be 36 holes of stroke play/medal tournament with the first cut after 18 holes on Saturday. Dlamini revealed that on Saturday, only 36 EPGA Professionals and Eswatini Golf Union (ESGU) elite amateurs will compete, after which a cut to 18 players will proceed to compete on Sunday.
“Only 10 spots will be paid to the participants, as both the professionals and elite amateurs qualify for the prize.

Deadline for registration for EPGA Pros and elite amateurs is July 25, 2025 (tomorrow) at 9am and entry fee for both is E300,” he stated.
