MBABANE – The town of Pigg’s Peak is preparing for a vibrant celebration of community spirit and sporting prowess.
This will be during the Pigg’s Peak Clean-Up Campaign Soccer Tournament. Scheduled for Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Killarney Sports Ground, this event promises to unite local football enthusiasts while championing environmental awareness.
Supported by Babhambabuli, the tournament will feature an exciting line-up of teams, a modest entry fee and a pivotal draw to determine the fixtures.
The participating clubs include some of the region’s most storied sides: Malanti Chiefs, Manzini Wanderers, Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows and Msumpe Manchester (Emangisi).
According to Tournament Organiser Nomcebo Matsebula, each club brings a rich heritage and a passionate fan base, setting the stage for a thrilling day of competitive football.
The draw to finalise the match-ups, originally planned for today, has been rescheduled to tomorrow. “We will commence at 8am with the clean-up campaign, starting at the park and continuing to Killarney Stadium,” Matsebula explained.
This will also provide an opportunity to engage with community members and encourage support for their teams, as gate takings will significantly benefit the clubs.
Gates at Killarney Sports Ground will open with an affordable entry fee of E20, ensuring accessibility for families and fans.
Matsebula emphasised the importance of community solidarity, noting that in a supportive community, children are more likely to grow in the right direction, and this event fosters that sense of collective encouragement.
Addressing the broader challenges facing Eswatini football, she added that they often hear complaints about the lack of support for local football.
“Part of this tournament and clean-up campaign is to rally community backing. If we can fill the stadiums to support clubs like Malanti Chiefs and Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows, it could attract investors to bolster these teams,” she said.
Matsebula concluded by highlighting additional attractions, including a curtain-raiser match featuring the Build it youngsters, Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows and City Stars. There will be another curtain raiser featuring Babhambabuli social team ahead of the finals. “If we start small but united, we can achieve great things before seeking further support from investors,” she remarked optimistically.
