MBABANE – Rising cyclist and reigning champion Mandiswa Fakudze is back to defend her title at this year’s 4EVA 2Fast2Furious Classic.
The 20-year-old is the current National Road Champion and has been a dominant force in the sport since last year, winning a number of titles.
This was confirmed by Clinton McNamara, the head of the 4EVA Cycling Club, during a sports show on national radio yesterday. He said the club was seeing an increase in female participation, with people realising that cycling is not just a sport for men.
“Cycling promotes a healthy lifestyle and all clubs will be represented at the event. The reigning champion Fakudze, and runner-up, Nontsikelelo Mdlovu, will be competing,” McNamara said.
He said both Fakudze and Mdlovu are also getting ready to represent Eswatini at the African Continental Cycling Championships in Kigali, Rwanda, in September 2025. This will be an important event as it’s the first time the International Cycling Union (UCI) Road World Championships will be held on African soil.
This year’s 4EVA 2Fast2Furious Classic will see over 150 local cyclists compete, along with 28 riders from neighbouring South Africa and Mozambique. The race is taking place today along the Lukhula-Big Bend route, starting from Treetops Resort.
