MBABANE – Pageants Eswatini Chairman Tony Dlamini says that the law will take its course on the person who leaked nude pictures of one of their pageant queens on social media.
This comes after someone shared inappropriate pictures and a short video of a pageant winner who was naked. The photos and the video sparked outrage on social media with some calling for law enforcement intervention as they deemed the act of sharing the pictures and the video demeaning.
Dlamini revealed this during an interview with this publication. Initially, Dlamini was unaware of the pictures circulating on social media; after being sent screenshots of the images, he said they will utilise the Cybersecurity Act to address this matter.
Part of this Act states: “A person who intentionally and without lawful excuse or justification or in excess of a lawful excuse or justification, initiates any electronic communication, with the intention to coerce, intimidate, insult, harass or cause emotional distress to a person, using a computer system, to support hostile behaviour, commits an offence and is liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding E100 000 or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years or both,” reads part of the Act.
Dlamini revealed that they already know of a person within law enforcement who will assist them in resolving this issue.
“We are pleased that the public has expertise on this. The other day, I was at Manzini Police Headquarters and I found someone who has been studying more about this Act abroad. We will open a case and will do so alongside the Cyber Crime Act. We will hold a meeting about this issue and then take it from there,” Dlamini said.
