MBABANE – Elangeni High School teacher Bonginkhosi Mhlanga has been re-elected Eswatini Woman Football Association (EWFA) Chairman.
He is returning to this position for the second consecutive time, following his election back in 2021, ending Sonnyboy Mabuza’s era of having led the organisation since 2014. Mabuza was not a contender in these elections. The EWFA Elective AGM was staged at Sigwaca House yesterday.
Mhlanga won by a majority of six votes, narrowly beating Lucky Dube, a former EWFA executive member who amassed five votes from the voting 11 teams. This is a reduction by two votes from the eight Mhlanga obtained when he was elected as Chairman in 2021.
Since stepping into office, the collective prize money package for this country’s women football league has increased by E50 000 from E100 000. It is expected to increase this season as announced by EFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu during last season’s prize presentation.
“I think it is crucial to have more sponsors or rather increase the number of tournaments for women. This will ensure that they at least play for better incentives. My focus will be on the zonal leagues as well. Currently, they are producing players for us in the absence of development leagues,” he remarked.
