MBABANE – A total of 95 golfers will battle it out this weekend at the Ezulwini Golf and Country Club in the 2025 King’s Golf Cup pre-qualifiers.
Vusi Dlamini, who is a member of the King’s Cup Organising Committee, confirmed that the field comprises 65 amateurs and 30 professionals and elite amateurs. The highlight of the weekend will be the PRO-AM category, carrying a prize purse of E70 000 while the Individual Stableford competition on Sunday will offer prizes worth E20 000.
The pre-qualifiers will be split into two main categories. There will be a PRO-AM from Friday (tomorrow) to Saturday, which is a 54-hole strokeplay event with a cut after 36 holes. From the 30 professionals and elite amateurs, only 12 will qualify for the main King’s Cup scheduled for September 10-14 at the same venue. The 12 qualifiers will be joined by MJ Dlamini, Brendan Rennie and James Pennington, who have earned automatic entry through their consistent and outstanding performances on tour.
Meanwhile, the individual stableford on Sunday will feature 18 of the professionals and elite golfers alongside the 65 high-handicap amateurs. Once again, 12 spots will be up for grabs, including three guaranteed places for three top-performing ladies.
These qualifiers will automatically earn entry into the main King’s Cup Pro-Am next weekend.
