MANZINI – A leader of a Zion church has been arrested for forging a Master of the High Court document, including a stamp.

Adam Shabangu (57) of Mhlabubovu was arrested and charged with forgery and uttering a forged document, well knowing that it was not authentic. This incident took place at the Matsapha Weighbridge, where he was attempting to change the ownership of a car.

According to a source close to the matter, on September 10, 2025, at around 10am, Shabangu allegedly produced documents to change ownership of a car to Detective Sergeant Sandile Zubuko. The source alleged that the vigilant law enforcer noted that there was an estate notice from the Master of the High Court, suggesting that the vehicle belonged to a deceased person, Simangele Khumalo.

After that, the suspecting police officer decided to verify the authenticity of the document using the file number EM35/ 2025. The clerk from the Master of the High Court (Manzini), who assisted the police officer in verifying the document, found the file, but stated that it belonged to Mgaco Zwane, who died on August 22, 2024, and did not own a car.

Additionally, the source said the detective sergeant also noticed that the stamp suggested it was from the Master of the High Court in Pigg’s Peak, and it had the cellphone number of the accused person.

Following this, Officer Zubuko called the Master’s Office in Pigg’s Peak to verify the authenticity of the stamp and sent a picture of it. He reported that the response he received was that the stamp did not belong to the Master’s Office, leading him to conclude that it was forged.

Thereafter, Zubuko took Shabangu and the person who bought the car, Wilson Khumalo, in for questioning, where they allegedly pointed fingers at each other. Later, the law enforcer, along with his team and Shabangu, went to Mhlabubovu to search his home, as he suspected there might be more exhibits there.
