MBABANE — The Trojan Horse Chess Club are currently favourites to win the inaugural Unifoods Chess National League.

The league was sponsored to the tune of E150 000 in  September 2024, with the money set to be spread over three years.

It then kicked off in July and over the past weekend, rounds three and four took centre stage, hosted by the Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS) Chess Club at their headquarters in Ezulwini. The log leaders had what looked like a title decider match against title rivals Power House Chess Club.

However, it turned out to be a one-sided affair. Trojan swept the classical section 6-0 despite missing stars like Candidate Master (CM) Mbongeni Mabuza and 17-year-old Nkosivile Mabuza. The reigning Under-10 national champion, Knowledge Dlamini, struck first on board four, while Nzuzolenhle Makhanya and the rest of the team overwhelmed Powerhouse.
