MBABANE – Moneni Pirates President Thulani Xaba, has fortified ties with Mozambican giants Costa do Sol during the latter’s 70th anniversary celebrations in Maputo.

The ‘Sea Robbers’ of Moneni travelled across the border to play a friendly match. The game, played on Sunday, saw Moneni Pirates take an early 1-0 lead at halftime, scored by their enterprising winger, Zahi Herve Irie, only to be edged out 3-1 by their hosts.

Despite the defeat, the experience proved invaluable for the Eswatini side as they prepare for their second domestic league game of the season against Young Buffaloes.

Moneni’s Public Relations Officer, Mlungisi ‘Sluga’ Simelane, reflected on the encounter during an interview on the Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Service (EBIS) Sport Show on Monday.

“We had a good international practice game against our neighbours Costa do Sol during their 70th anniversary celebrations in Maputo. We lost but gained a lot of experience ahead of our next MTN Premier League match,” Simelane said.
