Eluvinjelweni – A boost has been announced for the Eluvinjelweni Cultural Competition, with a E60 000 sponsorship aimed at supporting the local culture.

The announcement came on Saturday from Imphumelelelo ye Mabhele and announced by the Director,  Thulani Gwebu, who also serves as a police officer.

Speaking at the event, Gwebu emphasised the importance of cultural competitions in preserving and promoting traditions. “These events are more than just a competition; they are a reminder to all emaSwati of the value of our culture,” he said.

Saturday’s festivities brought together about 15 teams from across Eluvinjelweni, Nkomazi and Malanti. Each team showcased an array of cultural dances, providing a spectacular display of talent and skill.

During the weeks before the competitions, teams underwent training,  with some admitting that it was the first time for them to participate.  Attendees were treated to rhythmic drumbeats, colourful attire and traditional performances that reflected the diversity and spirit of the community.

The competition took place at Eluvinjelweni umphakatsi where Mabaleka Mncina is the Chief.

Among the guests was the Chief Executive Officer of the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC), who expressed delight at witnessing such a strong turnout. “This is the first time I have seen so many teams from just one chiefdom,” he remarked.
