MBABANE – EFA has joined the entire Eswatini football fraternity in mourning the untimely passing of retired international Jerome Ntshalintshali.
Eswatini Football Association (EFA) stated it was deeply saddened by the loss of the former Sihlangu captain, whose commitment to the beautiful game was described as unmatched.
A dedicated player known for his passion and football artistry, the strong centre-back proudly wore the national team colours and represented Eswatini on the international stage with excellence. He captained the national side at the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup back in 2013.
Domestically, his distinguished career spanned several top-tier clubs, including stints at Denver Sundowns FC (now Manzini Sundowns), Royal Leopard FC and the defunct Seven Dreams.
The EFA, through a statement released by Marketing and Communication Officer Muzi Radebe, acknowledged the immense void left by his departure.
“We still cannot comprehend the passing on of Mr Jerome Ntshalintshali as he was an experienced former football player who served the sport meticulously,” the statement read. The EFA stressed that Ntshalintshali’s passing represents a ‘titanic loss’ to the sport, noting that his exemplary reference in playing acted as a crucial motivation and role model for current athletes in the country.
His dedication to the national side, Sihlangu, has been highlighted as a benchmark for professionalism. His ability to display his talent on the international arena is said to have cemented his status as a factual servant of the sport.
The association extended its heartfelt sympathies to the late retired defender’s immediate family, relatives and friends, offering comfort in this difficult time.
Quoting scripture, the EFA concluded: “He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds.”
