MBABANE – The enactment of the Nuclear Radiation and Safety Act of 2025 has paved the way for the operationalisation of the Manzini Government Hospital Radiation Therapy Unit, following its publication in the government gazette.
The Act provides for the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear and radiation technology in a manner that allows beneficial applications of nuclear energy, while ensuring the protection of people and the environment from the harmful effects of ionising radiation. It also provides for the safety and security of radiation sources.
Notably, the establishment of the Act will now enable the operation of the country’s first public radiotherapy facility for cancer treatment at Manzini Government Hospital.
The facility is a project supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and government initiatives, aimed at providing local care for the rising number of cancer cases and reducing the need for costly overseas referrals.
The Act also seeks to regulate any form of nuclear operations that may arise in the country, ensuring that all activities involving nuclear and radiation technology are conducted within a clear legal framework.
In addition, the Act establishes prohibited activities within the country. Any activity or practice related to the acquisition or development of nuclear explosives, radiological dispersal devices or other radioactive materials and related technology or assisting others in such activities, is expressly prohibited.

ENPF CEO appointed chairperson of Malaria Elimination Fund
MBABANE – The Chief Executive Officer of the Eswatini National Provident Fund (ENPF), Futhi Tembe, has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Eswatini Malaria Elimination Fund Board, in terms of the Eswatini Malaria Elimination Fund Notice, 2025.
Tembe was earlier, in 2025, a notable Board member and was among the officials who received End Malaria Fund (EMF) Board members, including legendary South African singer and global malaria advocate Yvonne Chaka Chaka Mhinga, who serves as the Global Ambassador for the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA).
The delegation had visited the country for the End Malaria Fund Gala Dinner held at the Happy Valley Hotel.
The gala dinner successfully raised over E750 000 in support of Eswatini’s national malaria control programme.
