PIGG’S PEAK — A 35-year-old man who assaulted his wife told the Pigg’s Peak magistrate that he acted out of anger after a disagreement.
Sifiso Nxumalo (35) of KaNcesi, appeared before Pigg’s Peak Magistrate Nkhosingiphile Maseko. He was charged with unlawfully committing acts of physical and emotional abuse against his wife, Nonjabulo Dlamini, on January 2, 2026. The court heard that the accused assaulted her by striking her with a fist on the forehead and with an open hand once on the left cheek.
The accused pleaded guilty to the offence.
In his defence, Nxumalo told the court that he assaulted his wife for alleged unfaithfulness. He stated that he acted out of anger. The couple married in 2019 under Eswatini Law and Custom.
Magistrate Maseko questioned the accused on whether he had reported the previous instances of unfaithfulness. In response, Nxumalo stated that he had reported the incidents to his family. He noted that both families had previously met to deliberate on the matter.
“She promised to change, but she is continuing,” he told the court.
During mitigation, he apologised for his actions and informed the court that he is currently unemployed.
Magistrate Maseko informed the accused that his behaviour was irresponsible and emphasised that he had no right to assault his wife. The magistrate sentenced the accused to two years imprisonment, with the option of a E2 000 fine.
