MBABANE – MTN Premier League rookies Tabankulu Celtics are on the brink of completing a remarkable and rare feat as their first-round campaign draws to a close.

In a league often defined by cagey encounters and shared points, Celtics have emerged as the ultimate ‘all-or-nothing’ side. After 14 matches, they remain the only team in the Premier League yet to record a single draw. It is a statistical anomaly that has seen them either claim maximum points or leave empty-handed in every fixture this far.

However, their quest to finish the first round without a stalemate faces its most daunting hurdle yet. This weekend, the newcomers go head-to-head with defending champions Nsingizini Hotspurs, who have already secured the ‘first round champions’ title.

The Shiselweni-based powerhouse officially bagged the E120 000 first-round incentive following their clash against Mbabane Swallows at the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium a week ago. Umkhonto KaShaka won that match 1-0, courtesy of a first-half strike from Sizolwethu ‘Nunu’ Shabalala.

For the Lubombo-based side, the stakes could not be higher. Facing the league’s most consistent side means their ‘draw-free’ record will be under immense pressure.

Whether they pull off a shock victory or succumb to the champions’ might, a draw remains the most unlikely result given their season’s trend.

The rookies have brought a refreshing, attacking unpredictability to the elite league. While other teams might play for safety, Tabankulu’s approach has ensured that every minute of their maiden top-flight campaign has been decisive.

Celtics Public Relations Officer (PRO) Xolani Dlamini, however, admitted that the lack of draws is not necessarily a target, as the team is focused on a specific points tally.

“The coaches are currently working on turning potential losses into wins. We have recorded seven victories and suffered the same number of defeats,” Dlamini noted.

Despite the ‘hit-or-miss’ record, the spokesperson highlighted that management is delighted with the team’s overall performance in their debut top-flight season.

“We are happy with how the team has competed in their maiden year. Our mandate remains to finish the season with at least 35 points,” he added.
