BUKA- Residents of Buka in Ezulwini were left shocked after the decomposed body of a man was discovered in his house following complaints of a strong stench emanating from the homestead.
The deceased, identified as Dumsani Bongani Mnisi, was in his early 50s. He is survived by three children, who reportedly reside at his other home in Mbabane.
Dumsani was said to have been staying alone at his homestead, except on weekends when his partner would join him during her off days from work.
According to neighbours, Dumsani was a familiar and active presence around his home, where he regularly tended to his banana plants and maize crops. However, neighbours became concerned when he was not seen from Saturday afternoon, with further alarm raised by his absence from church the following day. “We both attend a local Zionist church and he is rarely absent. Even on days when he cannot attend, he makes sure to formally apologise,” said neighbour Londiwe Mtsetfwa.
Despite the unusual absence, neighbours initially did not suspect anything amiss due to persistent rainy weather, believing Dumsani may have been indoors.
Mtsetfwa said concern grew as days passed without any sight of him or communication.
“On my return home, while dressing a chicken outside, I kept looking towards his house hoping to see him, but he was nowhere to be seen. I considered alerting my husband but refrained, fearing he would question why I was concerned,” she said.
She added that one thing that caught her attention was that the bedroom windows were open while the lights were off, even as dusk approached. She noted that the situation remained unchanged on Monday and Tuesday.
When asked whether Dumsani’s partner had been around over the weekend, Mtsetfwa confirmed that she had been present and left on Saturday morning.
This was later confirmed during a brief phone call with the partner, who stated that she had indeed been with him and left on Saturday. She then requested to be excused and referred this reporter to the deceased’s brother, Buhle Mnisi. Buhle confirmed the death, stating that the family received a call yesterday morning from Lobamba Police Station requesting them to urgently report to the station. Upon arrival, they were informed of their brother’s death and escorted to his home.
In the company of community members, he said they were met by a strong stench from a distance, with flies covering the windows of the house. He said they proceeded to the bedroom, where his brother was found lying on his back on the floor, with deep gashing wounds suspected to have been inflicted by a sharp object on the neck, skull, head and right arm. The body was swollen and bore what resembled multiple stab wounds.
